WYFH PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Wilton Youth Field Hockey is a not-for-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to develop youth players, grades 3-8, into competitive, well-rounded athletes, while promoting respect, sportsmanship and a love for the sport of field hockey.
The Wilton Youth Field Hockey Program is a developmental program focused on providing age appropriate training and competitive play that enables girls to grow to their fullest potential and providing them with the guidance to evolve as a player and a ‘Warrior’.
Wilton Youth Field Hockey is a member of the Fairfield County Field Hockey League which provides competitive play opportunities throughout the season through a mix of jamborees and travel games coordinated by grade level.
Wilton Youth Field Hockey player development is led by Head Coach & Player Development Director, Emily Townsend Prince. Emily brings both her superior coaching skills and proven elite player development expertise to Wilton’s Youth players. Emily is working with WYFH in all of the following:
- Establishing a formalized training program for grades 3-8;
- Overseeing our coaching from the review and training of our hired 7/8 Travel coaches to the training and support of our volunteer coaches;
- Coaching the 8th grade Blue Travel Team with special attention on preparing our middle school players for high school;
- Leading our clinics, camps and new programs
Grades 3-6 Intramural League:
Coaching: All 3-6 Intramural programs are led by parent volunteer coaches. Overseen by Head Coach and Player Development Director, Emily Townsend Prince, coaches will be supported through coaching clinics and provided practice plans customized for each grade level of player.
Grade 3: This is a clinic-based program where girls learn the fundamentals of the game as a group. The 3rd Grade group practices once during the week and on Saturday with some "Play Days" with nearby towns on some weekends.
Grade 4: This is a clinic-based program where girls learn the fundamentals of the game as a group. The 4th Grade group practices once during the week and on Saturday with some "Play Days" with nearby towns on some weekends.
Grades 5 & 6: This is a combined program where 5th and 6th grade players will be assigned to mixed and balanced teams. Teams practice 1x during the week and play either an intramural game or travel game on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Start date and exact time of the clinic will be announced closer to season start as well.
